In 1846, the Oregon Treaty between the U.S. and Britain settled a boundary dispute by placing the border between the U.S. and Canada at the 49th parallel. The Oregon Territory included present-day Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and portions of Montana, Wyoming, and British Columbia.
