Did you know...
... that today is the birthday of the Miss America Pageant?
Margaret Gorman of Washington, DC, won the first pageant (then known as the Miss Inter-City Beauty Contest) in 1921. The Miss America competition originated as a two-day beauty contest in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The pageant was initiated in an attempt to keep tourists in Atlantic City after the Labor Day weekend.
