Did you know...
... that today is the birthday of the Holland Tunnel? Opened
in 1927, the Holland Tunnel, connecting New York City with
Jersey City, was the first U.S. automobile tunnel to be built
under water. Trivia fans: Unusual for an American public works
project, it is not named for a government official, politician, a local hero or a person of historical interest but for its first chief engineer, Clifford Milburn Holland.
